Teenager Car Insurance - Finding an Inexpensive Policy

By Andy Darwinson

We all know car insurance can be costly, but when you're dealing with teenager car insurance can be extremely expensive. The reason for this is because teenagers are more apt to accidents, then if they were over the age of 25. It doesn't matter where you go; insurance companies believe teenagers are high risk thanks to the overall studies.

While it is generally the case that if you are trying to insure a vehicle for a teenager you could pay through the nose, it is possible to get cheaper teenager car insurance if you know what to do. One of the things that insurers take into consideration when quoting to a customer, is the type of vehicle that they drive.

You probably already know that some cars are more apt to be involved in accidents as others. Then of course there are various one that are built to be safer. When it's time to look into your teenager car insurance policy, you should go with a car that has a light-color, no tinted windows, and be a four-cylinder. Yes, we understand your teenager probably wants something sporty and sleek, but if you take that route they will raise the premiums like crazy. A standard vehicle will bring about lower premiums.

Insurers recognize that certain people drive certain cars, and the car a person drives is often an indicator of the way that person will behave. Some cars speak to insurers of reckless drivers or drivers who are likely to get into trouble on the road. If an insurer believes that you are going to be a high risk, i.e., more likely to have an accident than some other drivers, they will up your premium payments.

However, it's not just about the type of vehicle you choose, it also has to deal with the miles you drive. They will ask you how many miles you plan on driving a year, and the more your teenager drives, the higher your premium will be. We recommend figuring out what you will be doing throughout the year, and come as close as you can to an estimation. If it seems that your teenager will not be on the road, then the car insurance will be cheaper. It's good news for you, even though your child may not like it.

If you are the one paying for car insurance for your child, then it's going to be up to you to get the best insurance at the cheapest rate. They probably will be much happier with a sporty car, but having an unremarkable one is better then none at all. Then of course they could always pay for their own car insurance.

What it comes down to is the less your teenager drives, the more money you're going to save. So try getting a decent car that is dependable, have a good estimation on the overall miles annually, and you will be able to get cheaper teenager car insurance. Even though you may not understand all the savings you can receive when doing your research, once you check your bank account it will all make sense.
